Crouse Publications, possessor of the world's largest offshore powerboat racing photo files, announces the opening of its vast photo archives to the general public.
The files were set up by then photo-journalist John Crouse in 1957. Many of their photos were used in his internationally acclaimed, six-pound book "SEARACE...The History Of Offshore Powerboat Racing."
The files were greatly enlarged recently with the addition of the 20-year collection of the late photographer Ron Thibedeau. One of the few aerial photographers in the sport using the famed Swedish made Hasselblad cameras, Thibedeau was considered the world’s best in his chosen specialty.
The combined files include photos from Crouse’ collection from 1957 through 1990 and Thibedeau’s shot from the 1970’s though the 1980’s. In addition to his aerial photography, the native French-Canadian took hundreds of photos of international offshore racing sites and at the sports’ official social gatherings and awards banquets.
Many of author-publisher Crouses photographs were used as the boating editor of the Miami Daily News, 28-year stint as associate editor of Powerboat Magazine and U.S. correspondent to the French World of Yachting, Italian Mare and Nautica and Japan’s Yachting magazines.
They include black and white and color prints and negatives, 35 mm color slides, and the larger format Hasselblad negatives and 4"x 5" type C color positive transparencies.
